Bruce May-Whitcombe (Soil & Fertiliser Consultant)

Bruce May-WhitcombeI’m a soil and fertiliser consultant, managing Orchards and farms in the wider Bay of Plenty. I have applied Humates to the vast majority of the orchards I manage.
Previous to Humates, most farmers applied compost, with varying comments,
However, most farmers were just not happy with the Cost, Spreading, or the rubbish that came in with the compost. However, I have had no negative comment when applying Humates in fertiliser mixes.
The cost benefit from adding the raw Humate to the fertiliser mix it’s a no brainer.
I have had comments from growers that their orchard seems to be greener, and the plants are more robust.
Observations made from Soil tests taken each year, Humates seem to create and assist the biomass in soil, improving the soils holding capacity for nutrients and moisture. Also noticed are good levels of Organic Matter important for the holding anions. This observation leads us to believe that there is less leaching going on.
Our goal is to provide good advice for the farmer. Humate, I believe creates an environment with less plant stress, and simply lets the plant get on with growing, ensuring a good return for money spent.
This product in liquid-Humic has 4% Potassium which is plant available, and very good for a finishing touch prior to harvest.
The Humate-Solid form & Humic-Liquid form both becomes a very handy tool for the Farmer.
Farmers have commented that since applying Humates with their fertiliser, when other farms are looking brown, their paddocks have shown a healthy green cover.
